Hello,
We're MiTech, and we're a Young Enterprise student company from Watford, England, representing Watford Grammar School for Girls in the competition. Our product is an app called MiStory, a storytelling app aimed at children aged 4-8 years old. Before you tap the little red 'x' in the corner of your screen, hold on just a minute. It's not just any old storytelling app. We want to use our platform to spread stories advertising love, acceptance, and uniqueness. Our aim is to provide today's youth with material that will broaden their minds, and teach them acceptance, rather than hatred.
Here's a preview of the app:
Our stories will focus on the LGBTQ+ community, autism, gender equality, disability, mental illness, encouraging young girls to take up STEM-based careers, and equality between races. We aspire for a world where everyone is treated equally and, unfortunately, we're just not there yet. But we have time. It's 2019. In ten years, who knows where we'll be?
So, we're targeting children. Kids between the ages of 4-8 are at the tender stage where they're beginning to understand the world around them, and where they're beginning to form opinions about their surroundings. If we can play a part in the opinions young minds form, maybe in ten years, the world will be a far better place. Kids nowadays are glued to their screens. Tablets, phones, televisions...you name it. The time a child would spend on our app, would be far better spent than the time they might spend elsewhere on the Internet, watching toy-unboxing videos, or mind-numbing skits of fidget spinner stunts. We would utilise their screen time for good. Not only would the child be reading, and developing their vocabulary, but they'd also be learning good things about the world around them - they'd be learning kindness, open-mindedness, and acceptance.
Creating change isn't easy, and we appreciate that. However, we don't expect to change the world with one app. We know that change is gradual. It's a slow process. We get that. But it's also a ripple effect. If one person inspires love in place of hate, the next will do the same, and it will repeat.
So join us, in becoming the change we want to see in the world. Let's come together in unity, togetherness, and strength.
Thank you,
Somdatta Chakraborty Managing Director
